The Project
Each year, over a thousand children under the age of 18 enters systems such as Oranga Tamariki. At Mellow Studios, we care about providing opportunities for tamariki from difficult backgrounds to grow in confidence, build healthy relationships, have consistent mentorship and find expression through music.
By donating to this program, you are directly impacting the lives of ten tamariki, giving them access to a safe space where they can explore their passion for music and grow in confidence.
The Team
Marley Sola began mellow studios in July 2021 with the intention of seeing artists, musicians and people with a passion for music succeed in life. With a decade of professional experience, Marley has a wealth of knowledge to share with his students. Highlights of his career include being signed with Sony Music NZ as a young song-writer, releasing music for his solo career under Warner Music NZ, competing in X-Factor New Zealand Season One with Moorhouse and singing on The Voice Australia Season 12 with Guy Sebastian.
His experience includes song-writing, producing and releasing music (for himself and multiple other professional artists), creating music videos, TV appearances, broadcast singing competitions, TV and radio interviews, gigging and working alongside friends in the industry such as Rob Ruha, Vince Harder, Whenua Patuwai, Adeaze, Aaradhna, Ka Hao, Seth Haapu and David Ware.
Marley also loves to work with whānau from the community and has partnered with organisations such as Te Whatu Ora, Pese Wairua, Oranga Tamariki, Key Assests and local iwi to offer music intervention sessions which are a hau ora based music sessions where tamariki as young as 5 years old are able to come into the studio to create waiata and learn about music.
The Funding
Mellow Studios Music Intervention Program 2025
Each tamariki will be provided with 10 music intervention sessions over the 10 week term fees free. Each session costs $100 totalling $1,000 per child per term.
With our goal of $10,000, we would be able to offer a terms worth of music intervention sessions to 10 whānau throughout 2025!
We already have a waiting list of eager tamariki who have been referred to this program.
The Details
This Music Intervention Program is hosted by Mellow Studios, a professional recording studio and vocal school based in the heart of Ōtautahi CBD.
Hour long sessions are run on a weekly basis throughout the school term by Studio Director and professional artist/producer, Marley Sola.
Within Aotearoa, there is a clear battle over the mental health of our young people and it starts as young as 5 years old. We believe that music has the power to heal and build healthy connections with oneself and others and that is is our duty to create space for as many tamariki and rangatahi as possible to enhance and better their mental health.
