Let's Talk About Me
Wayne Mills | Multi Discipline
Overview
This project is about writing a stage musical based on the New Zealand-focused innovative satirical songwriting of well-known singer/songwriter Andrew London, and the creative writing and theatre performance skills of one of our country’s leading playwrights, April Phillips.
This will be a truly unique production because it will deliver an engaging storyline and musical lyrics based on our self-deprecating Kiwi sense of humour. 'Let's Talk About Me' will provide a lasting memorable musical perspective on the ups and downs of antipodean life and how to enjoy it!
The title of the project 'Let's Talk About Me' is based on one of Andrew's most popular songs which you can see performed by Andrew here.
If we can succeed with our funding target we plan to complete and premiere the musical by mid-2021.
Our budget
Our funding target of $27,800 has been carefully budgeted and will be spent as follows:
- Creative concept and script writing
- Musical arrangement and scoring
- Set design and build
- Costumes
- Pre-advertising and marketing materials
Financial Contributions
We've secured a seed sponsor - The Edge Business Services - who will generously contribute $5,000 towards the funding target.
From $5 to $5,000, all contributions would be incredibly gratefully received. It's all-or-nothing, so we have to reach our full target to receive the funds, otherwise your donations will be refunded. As the platform is run by the Arts Foundation, your contribution will also be tax deductible.
Timing is perfect and the team has all the right stuff to make it happen
Right now, with the shadow of Covid hanging over near-term live performance opportunities, the upside is that there has never been a better time for us to put maximum effort into developing new creative projects like 'Let's Talk About Me'.
We also think that people need to have a laugh when the going gets tough and, coming into 2021, we intend that this stage musical will deliver plenty of good old joie de vivre back to Kiwi audiences.
We've previously worked extensively together writing and performing musical tribute shows in theatres and at national jazz festivals. These include “Blue Eyes” (a tribute to Frank Sinatra) at Circa Theatre in 2003 (winner of the Stellar Award for Best Musical Production); “Unforgettable” (a tribute to Nat King Cole); “The Glory of Gershwin”; and “The Retro Pack” which had a sold out season at Circa Theatre in 2019. Check out our Facebook page for more detail about our careers.
Thank you!

A "Thank You" song
We're so close to our target goal. Andrew and April express their gratitude in the best way they know how - in song. Please spread the word and share this Boosted page to help us reach that end goal. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts and the top of our voices xx
