Kuwao Gallery and Studio Space

Tēnā koe.

 

From the shores of Tauranga Moana, Kuwao is a collective of artists, writers, performers, activists and community builders focused on decolonization and reconnection kaupapa.

 

Our vision is to inspire and uplift our communities through art, wānanga and events to create impactful change for Aotearoa, and we need your support.

 

Kūwao recently opened the doors to our new creative headquarters. This space will boast artist studios, a gallery, recording studio, video/edit suite and communal area for events. 

 

We are seeking support to help pay the bills, and invest that little bit more into making it cozy and wānanga ready. 

Honestly, no one wants to sit on cold concrete floors.

With project funding from Creative NZ for a series of Toi Māori exhibitions and wānanga, we are amping to get the space gallery ready to finally launch our 2024/25 programme.

 

Founded on principles of manaaki, whanaunga, and reconnection, Kūwao offers a nurturing environment for everyone to explore innovative and radical approaches to cultural connection, expression and community building.

 

Across the motū, but especially here in Tauranga Moana, Kūwao is a beacon of hope and empowerment. Your contribution goes towards nourishing those seeds.
