Overview
KUINI ‘A tribute to Her Majesty Queen Sālote Tupou III’ is a full length Tongan dance show, dedicated to the Queen of our hearts.
BACKGROUND:
This work is a full length Tongan dance piece with a fusion of contemporary dance, showcasing Her Majesty’s work as a strong female poet & ICON through the lens of Tongan Choreographer and Dancer, Lyncia Muller.
Being heavily inspired by her poetry and songs, this project will be Lyncia Muller’s first full length dance piece that showcases how the late Queen Sālote has influenced the majority of Lyncia’s work and how Queen Sālote has paved the way for Tongan art.
“I channel Her Majesty Queen Sālote Tupou lll when I create my work or when I am contributing to a collective of work. Her inner beauty, strength to lead and passionate love for our people is what I admire and in honour of her memory, this would be my gift to Her Majesty Queen Sālote Tupou III.” - Lyncia Muller
Lyncia’s ultimate goal is to take this piece back home to Tonga, have it performed for the Royal Family, for her people and then around the Pacific Islands. This opportunity with the Boosted X Moana fund will allow her to create the foundation of these goals.
Through videography, contemporary dance, Tongan dance and live music, there is no better way to pay homage to the Queen of our hearts.
WHY YOUR SUPPORT IS IMPORTANT AND HOW YOU CAN HELP:
With your support, I will be given the time and energy to execute 'KUINI' to the highest possible standard. With the goal of $10,000, these funds will cover production costs, pay performers, cultural advisors, costume designers and visual artists.
Supporting 'KUINI' means you’re supporting Tongan art, creating a platform to inspire and encourage other Tongan & Pasifika artists to continue to share stories of the heroes that came before them. Your financial support allows a wider audience to be educated about the importance of Queen Sālote to Tongan people, and how she encouraged the arts in ways that made singing and dancing a preserved part of Tongan culture.
