'Au Ta - The enduring legacy of Tatau

We are beyond excited to share that Fibre Gallery—the South Island’s sole Pacific art gallery—will be hosting a groundbreaking exhibition next June: ‘Au Ta – The Enduring Legacy of Polynesian Tatau.

This extraordinary event will immerse Christchurch in the ancient and sacred art of Tatau, a practice steeped in centuries of tradition and culture. Featuring live demonstrations, workshops by esteemed tufuga (masters), and enlightening panel discussions, ‘Au Ta will be a unique opportunity to experience and connect with this profound art form.

This exhibition will be a historic moment for Christchurch, representing the largest gathering of Pasifika Tatau practitioners in two decades. We are committed to making this experience accessible to everyone, including residents and school groups, free of charge. However, to turn this vision into reality, we need your support.
