What is Boosted X Moana?

The vision of Creative New Zealand’s 2023-2028 Pacific Arts Strategy calls for powerful and resilient Pacific arts, led by passionate and enterprising Pasifika people, for Aotearoa, Te Moana Nui-a-Kiva and the world.

We’ve collaboratively led four annual campaigns, 2020-2023 – collectively granting match funds to 68 projects and raising a total of $709,667.

What's in store for 2024?

In the fifth iteration of Boosted X Moana, Creative New Zealand and The Arts Foundation Te Tumu Toi are pivoting the approach to Boosted X Moana to be more integrated. After four years, Boosted X Moana has become well-known in our creative community with a strong brand and kaupapa. Having involved over 130 Pasifika people in Boosted X Moana since inception, we are expanding the offering beyond a month-long campaign and adjusting how we use the funding to allow more match funding for creatives and reduce the amount in campaign execution.
Boosted are delighted to announce that we are continuing to grow our partnership with Creative New Zealand through Boosted X Moana 2024, with $150K of match funding up for grabs.

Rather than having a month of funding specifically, the match funds will be available year-round, and Boosted are onboarding a Pasifika mentor .

Key Differences this year

• Moving from month-long campaign to year-round: We're making Boosted X Moana part of our permanent offering for 2024, with Pasifika campaigns able to get match funding for projects across the year
• Pasifika mentor: One of our Boosted X Moana alumni will be coming on board the Boosted team to deliver the campaign and to mentor all the Pasifika projects.
  $150K match funding: More match funding is up for grabs across the year as 50 x $3K match funds (allocated on first in first served basis). If a project is climate focussed, you can get double the match - $6K.
• We're coming to you: The BXM mentor will be heading to the regions to run Boosted X Moana crowdfunding workshops over the year in Northland, Auckland, Bay of Plenty, Hawkes Bay, Canterbury, and Otago.
• Climate focus: Under the CNZ Pacific Arts strategy, we particularly want to attract projects that address climate change. If a project is climate focussed, they can receive two match funds for the one project.
   

Why this works for creatives

Having a match fund raises the likely success rate of each project to 95%, so we're backing you for a sure-fire success. Once your campaign is live for funding, each new donation from your crowd will be doubled by the Boosted X Moana match fund.
Over the last 4 years of the Boosted X Moana campaigns, we've raised over $700K - enabling 68 Pasifika creatives to bring their art to life, gain valuable community development and arts promotion skills, build stronger connections with other Pacific artists, and grow a supportive community to back them.
