Y Factor

The YMCA Y Factor is an annual youth talent quest, allowing young people to showcase their talents to our community, whilst also having an opportunity to win some large cash prizes to help them on their artistic journeys. Specifically for 13-21 year olds, the Y Factor is about supporting young people in a strictly encouraging and positive environment, and incorporates the genres of dance, singing and variety performances.

We've found that other talent quests offer young people prizes in vouchers or experiences, which are valuable, but do not enable the winners to invest into their own development. By giving cash prizes, The Y Factor is investing directly back into the next generation, and letting them take their own next steps on their artistic pathways. Lessons, equipment, recording sessions are all costly and we want to help them on their way!

Professional sound and lighting, videographers, photography and live streaming for the finalists enable us to put on the highest quality show possible. 

Your donation towards the costs of staging this event will help us continue to support the many talented young people of Ōtautahi. The cost of the technical support alone is over $10,000, and with your help we can make the 2021 Y Factor our biggest and best event yet!
