Overview
"Art has had an important role in healing Christchurch's quake-torn community. Help me bring some of that energy and empathy to Auckland, building bridges through art between shaky town and New Zealand's biggest city." - Julia Holden
This project proposes raising $5,000 towards the printing and installation of five paintings of post-quake Christchurch scenery by Christchurch-based, Trans-Tasman artist Julia Holden, presented as billboards in Auckland city during April/May 2014. Each billboard requires $500 for printing and $500 for installation costs.
Once these initial costs are met there are opportunities following the initial Auckland installation for these works to be re-presented at locations around New Zealand, Hamilton, Tauranga, Wellington, etc, and possibly further afield to Australia and beyond.
Present Tense, 8-13th April, Cathedral Junction, Christchurch, opening 8 April, 5.30 pm. We will be holding a week-long exhibition of the works at Gap Filler's pop-up site, The Inconvenience Store, in Cathedral Junction. You are warmly invited to view the works and help me choose by voting on which 5 of the 10 paintings to up-scale as billboards! I am sharing the week with Christchurch writer Andrew Paul Wood who will debut and perform his writing piece at random (inconvenient) times. Its going to be an exciting and fun week so stay tuned for updates.
Thank you so much for taking the time to check out this project. I'll be posting updates as we go along but if you have any questions, suggestions or comments please add them and I'll be happy to answer where I can.
