Who Do We Have Here?
Anika Stonnell | Film
Overview
‘Who Do We Have Here?’ is a 10-12 minute drama/comedy short film set in an early 2000’s kid’s show, where lessons must be learned.
When a children’s TV show character, Dilly Bog is transformed from soft toy to human, he must learn to conform to the show’s structure. But wanting to learn more of his purpose, he threatens the show’s creator, characters and audience, putting the whole world of the show at risk.
‘Who Do We Have Here?’ is a film created and produced by a group of Screen Arts Students studying Massey University for their final year major project.

Director’s Statement:
My vision for this film comes from my exposure to a wide variety of kid’s shows throughout my life. My older sister who has a chromosomal abnormality and autism, still watches these shows to this day. Even when I grew out of them, they were ever present, I couldn’t escape them. I think she finds comfort in their regular, warm familiarity. We’d watch In the Night Garden, The Wiggles, The Bear in the Big Blue House, Play School, Blue’s Clues, etc. The characters in these shows were real to us. When they spoke to us through the screen, we felt spoken to. I thought, what if our friend through the screen suddenly made us feel unsafe? What if the familiar structure of the show was interrupted? I want to play on this uneasy feeling. I want to craft a kid’s show that has all the conventions of the ones I grew up with and insert a character who rebels. I hope this film brings up fear and discomfort in the audience. I hope it warps the nostalgia people feel for their favourite shows growing up. I believe with the talented team we’ve got together, we can deliver on this concept. We want to make the best, most plausible looking kid’s show, before tearing it apart. Thanks for your help.
Be kind.
Jasper
