When You See Me

The Project
When You See Me is a twelve minute queer sapphic romance between a young poet and painter.
Set in modern day Wellington, the story centres around Leilani. A young poet and a hopeless romantic, Lani can write about love but is afraid to speak her true feeling. Maeve, our painter, is Leilani’s best friend and love interest. Her dark and cold exterior is the complete opposite of her bright, vibrant paintings. We also have Lani's dorky father, who can never seem to say the right thing to encourage his daughter with her trouble in love.
Leilani realises her feelings go beyond their close friendship, but with Maeve set to move halfway across the country. She must decide whether to speak those feelings or silence her heart.
When You See Me is a Massey Bachelor of Screen Arts project, created and produced by our graduating third year students. Currently in pre-production, and are set to begin filming in September this year.
We have the gear, we have the crew, we just need the funds!
With a successful boosted campaign, we are looking to raise $4500 to fund our production. Your donations would go towards paying our cast, food and travel expenses as well as much, much, more.

Director's Statement:
Kia Ora! My name is Georgia Cotterill and I am the writer and director for When You See Me. Written from my true experiences of being young and in love with my best friend and the heartache I felt watching her move way. When You See Me is a project I have put my heart and soul towards for the past three years of my degree. This project is important to me as a queer filmmaker in Aotearoa, it is my mission to bring sapphic and queer stories to our screens and give others the representation I wish I had for myself growing up. My previous films have always come from my own queer experiences and are whimsy, heartfelt and absolutely quirky.
When You See Me is women-led and a majority queer team working hard towards its vision. It is my hope that this film is brought to life and speaks to all the people that struggle in their longing for love.
Much love to you,
Georgia
