Wearing Thin - Short Film

Wearing Thin is a short drama chronicling the journey of a young woman named Maya as she spirals into the grips of eating disorder anorexia. Her journey highlights the realities of this life-threatening illness and shows that even those you least expect can be vulnerable.

This film is important to make because this illness is a real issue. It is the biggest killer of all psychiatric disorders in New Zealand that affects many people but particularly young/adolescent women whom our protagonist Maya represents. Not only that but there is also currently a real lack of fictional work that authentically represents anorexia. We want to take advantage of the opportunity we have to raise awareness. We want to generate greater understanding of this illness through fictional film in an attempt to dispell stereotypes and generate a dialogue where people can talk openly about this disease via an entertaining and compelling short fiction piece. 

In today's society the images presented by the media and current trends relating to food and lifestyle such as the 'fitspo' craze are highly prevalent and often encourage or cover up underlying disorders in the obsession to be "Fit" and "Toned". Another reason why this is a timely project for us to produce. We have undergone extensive research to make sure that this film is accurate, sensitive and honest to its content. 

We are two creative individuals in our last year of Film and Television at AUT. This is our last project to create and the biggest. We are passionate and will make this film the best it can be and do the subject matter justice. 

But in order to bring our project to life we are in need of contributions from you! As this is a student project we are required to find our own funding, so any help will be greatly appreciated!

The funds will go towards props, production costs, post-production work and festival entries upon completion.
