The Project
The Plant is a little, all-ages music lounge, tucked into the centre of Blenheim, Aotearoa
It was dreamed, and then propped up by Matt Hellriegel and Tatiana Martzova as a lever to pressure their favourite bands into playing shows around the top of the South, to push against Blenheim’s lack of anything resembling a music scene, and, to remind local grown ups and aspiring grown ups that actually, yeah, live music is worth having in your life!
In its first couple years The Plant has consistently (much to the bemusement of Matt and Tati’) kicked above its weight - playing host to a variety of different genres and specimen, including royal kiwi gemmies like Don McGlashan and Nadia Reid, as well as international punk heroes Screaming Females / No Age / The Schizophonics, and a strew of other eclectic and inspired good stuff from Aotearoa and overseas. Taking inspiration from DIY, kid-safe punk venue “The Smell” (LA), and Barrytown’s illustrious “Barrytown Hall” The Plant’s life goal is to culminate community spirit through intermittent bursts of musical performance and interaction.
Y’know, a global pandemic isn't the easiest time for any business to thrive, and, like many of the small venues around the world we are unsure how long we can keep this dream alive, however *cue inspirational music* a movement has formed in the shape of a Boosted LIVE campaign called #SAVEOURVENUES.
Any help keeping our very-real-rent paid and power on would mean the world, and hopefully we can reward you all with a bunch more hot shows once this all blows over!
Lots of that good love, Matt and Tati’
