We Love The Dome
The Dome Bar and Cinema | Music
Overview
We are staggered with the generosity and quick action everyone has taken to help towards the survival of The Dome. Thankyou, thankyou, thankyou xxx. We know we have an amazing Dome community and you are all part of this place. Sob, sniff.
The amount we have already raised will be enormously helpful in paying the awaiting bills, but by raising our goal - to what we had hoped to achieve but never thought possible till now, we will be able to form a buffer to help us through the coming months until life can get back to normal.
Please donate if you feel it, and keep sharing this page and #welovethedome. Thank you so much everybody.

The Dome Bar is one of the shining jewels in Gisborne’s crown. Voted as the best in the world by Trip Advisors Jetsetter magazine, The Dome has played host to many of New Zealand’s best musicians and musical experiences. It’s a place for locals to cut their teeth on the live music stage, a space to gather and feel the warm sensation of being part of the history, a place to find your own luxurious corner and soak it all up.
Our Dome Room and garden bar offer the most luscious of atmospheres to enjoy a spine tinglingly great night out. Dancing beside the cooling waterfall in summer, or seated under the grand leadlight Domes in front of the main stage, there is nothing quite like The Dome.
We’ve been closed for over six weeks now, treading water, biting our nails and staring into the abyss of an unknown slow trickle of life back to what once was. We need to call on our Dome lovers, those of you who own a local stake in having such a cool place to come, those who have visited from afar and enjoyed our warm, quirky welcome, those of you that don’t want to imagine life in Gisborne without The Dome. Life in Gisborne without The Dome! We can’t let Covid 19 win this one!
Many small venues are facing similar dilemmas. These are the places where artists travel to play for you and me. Where New Zealand artists get to forge support for their talent. These venues are run on shoestring budgets by locals who are passionate about bringing culture to the small corners of the universe, while fostering the next musical generation of stars.
Many have asked “how can we help?” If, and only if, you have the ability to donate please do it now, a little or a lot, every piece of the puzzle will count. The second and equally important thing you can do is share this page and help us reach our community. Forward the link to this page through your own channels, use the hashtags #welovethedome #saveourvenues. If you’ve got pictures or videos of The Dome post them up with the page link and the hashtags. Share the love.
We are very grateful to the movers and shakers of this nationwide Boosted campaign, Boosted LIVE presents #SAVEOURVENUES, supporting the music industry and the many small venues that make such a big difference. Thanks to Smash for our nomination, we are feeling humbled to be standing and holding hands at this time with our whole industry.
Run by a dedicated committee of music lovers - including Reb Fountain, Matthew Crawley (Golden Dawn / Strange News), Lucy Macrae & Tom Anderson (Whammy Bar), Rohan Evans (The Wine Cellar) and Reuben Bonner (Banished Music) - the #SAVEOURVENUES team seek to unite in support of Aotearoa's live music venues and music scene. #SAVEOURVENUES aim is to help generate support for crucial, original, small live music venues right across New Zealand, in cities and towns. And they are calling on everyone to help to raise awareness and funds, and trigger a national response strategy in support of a thriving musical culture in New Zealand.
