We Love the Crown and Inch Bar
The Crown and Inch Bar | Music
Overview
#WELOVETHECROWNANDINCHBAR #SAVEOURVENUES #SAVEOURVENUESNZ
The Crown & Inch Bar are Dunedin's tiny but mighty venues.
The Crown is Dunedin institution, half way up Rattray St, it has been hosting bands for about 30 years now, first in the big bar (they had to close that side because the casino complained about the noise!); and now in what was the public bar.
Everybody has played at The Crown - name a band, we bet they've played The Crown.
Jones Chin has got to be one of the most hospitable people we know. Like - when the bands are packing out, he brings out a ginomous platter of food. And he calls us entertainers who should be looked after.
Hiding in plain sight Inch bar is an absolute gem. Situated on the fringe of the North east valley the quirky little venue offers up an eclectic assortment of live music and entertainment almost every night of the week. Where emerging artists cut their teeth, where people get cosy and rub shoulders and get inspired by our local talent. Inch is supportive of all events and has hosted everything from live music, to poetry, and comedy.
Not only do we host our own events but were are a space that gets used for a multitude of community events such as Fringe Festival and Dunedin Pride. We love our little place and we want to keep it going for all of our fellow creatives.
We are asking for your help! By donating the cost of a couple of pints, or the door charge you would usually pay to see these amazing shows, you are helping us stay afloat and continue being the creative community hubs we’ve worked so hard to become!
Anyone can help – artists, audience members, reviewers, techies, promoters – all of us. First up – please donate now – no donation is too small. Then please - using the hashtags #welovethecrownandinchbar and #saveourvenues post your memories as a response and share this with your community along with the link to this page so that your friends can donate too.
Run by a dedicated committee of music lovers - including Reb Fountain, Matthew Crawley (Golden Dawn / Strange News), Lucy Macrae & Tom Anderson (Whammy Bar), Rohan Evans (The Wine Cellar) and Reuben Bonner (Banished Music) - the #SAVEOURVENUES team seek to unite in support of Aotearoa's live music venues and music scene. #SAVEOURVENUES aim is to help generate support for crucial, original, small live music venues right across New Zealand, in cities and towns. And they are calling on everyone to help to raise awareness and funds, and trigger a national response strategy in support of a thriving musical culture in New Zealand.
