Ponsonby Social Club has been the home for some of the greatest local music in Auckland since 2007. Located in the middle of New Zealand's most diverse neighbourhood, PSC has always been a purveyor of the local music scene. From Jazz, Brazilian, Latin ,Hip Hop, Soul & Funk PSC has been home to some of the greatest names in New Zealand music.
Countless local DJ’s, bands and musicians have all performed and held residencies here alongside a long list of international acts. Our Ethos at PSC has been to have these amazing events / acts performing for our audience for free with only a handful of ticketed events since we started in 2007 we have stayed true to this to bring these amazing musical experiences to everyone. PSC would like to continue delivering music and entertainment to the community by keeping these experiences alive.
As a “Bar” and under Covid-19 regulations PSC’s will now not be able to reopen until Thursday May 21st. This has been another blow to us in these unprecedented times. Furthermore when we do finally open doors, our small venue will have an even smaller capacity as we apply the three ‘S’ rules. All this on top of being closed for almost 2 months has made things financially very difficult for our small business. & bringing free live music to everyone is just not viable in the immediate future.
This is where we need your help! We’re calling on you to do two things: Donate! We know these are tough times for everyone but any amount helps us to survive. Share the link to this fundraising page with the hashtags #weloveponsonbysocialclub and #saveourvenues everywhere you can.
We’re asking you, our friends and our community to get behind us and support one of your favourite local music venues. When we emerge from these strange times we will need local music venues more than ever. We need venues like PSC for us all to play, put on shows, listen to music and once again come together with our friends & whānau.
Run by a dedicated committee of music lovers - including Reb Fountain, Matthew Crawley (Golden Dawn / Strange News), Lucy Macrae & Tom Anderson (Whammy Bar), Rohan Evans (The Wine Cellar) and Reuben Bonner (Banished Music) - the #SAVEOURVENUES team seek to unite in support of Aotearoa's live music venues and music scene. #SAVEOURVENUES aim is to help generate support for crucial, original, small live music venues right across New Zealand, in cities and towns. And they are calling on everyone to help to raise awareness and funds, and trigger a national response strategy in support of a thriving musical culture in New Zealand.
