waves - a short film

The Project
We are a group of young filmmakers in our final year studying film production at Victoria University of Wellington. We are seeking to make a short personal film before the year ends and need your help making it happen!
ABOUT THE PROJECT
Two women in their mid-twenties with a long but recently distant friendship reunite at the beach and talk about their future. This film is for anyone who is unsure in their twenties (most of us). At its heart this film is about female friendship.
WHY BOOSTED?
Through boosted, we are hoping to raise money to help provide food, transportation, and kohas for our actors. As we are a team of young student filmmakers, our funds are limited. Your donation would be incredible in helping us bring the story to life and distribute the film.
ABOUT US
Katja Mokha: Writer, Director, and Editor
I wrote this script as a love letter to all my friends that have drifted but who I hold in my heart. I'm finishing up my final year at Te Herenga Waka studying Film and International Relations and enjoy sticking myself into anything creative! I'm so happy to work with an awesome female-led team!
Acacia Wong: Producer and Director of Photography
I am super excited to be involved in a story that centres female friendship. I am in my third year of university majoring in English Literature and Film Production, and so I am in love with the creative process; the longing for communication and connection is something that I incredibly drawn to so I am so looking forward to being able to capture this little (big) moment.
Sophie Hampson: Sound
Kia ora! I am Sophie and I am the sound recordist on this project. I have found a recent love for sound design over the past year through my university studies and am really excited to be working on this project!!
Alex Quinn: Gaffer
ACTORS:
Pan Clark: Clara
Minna Zhu: Maeve
SOME MORE ABOUT THE FILM...
Maeve and Clara grew up together but their paths have diverged. They are almost foils of each other in the way that each seems to crave what the other has, mimicking the feeling in your twenties that you’re missing out on the multitude of paths you could be taking. While there is contrast here, these women deeply understand and miss each other.
ABOUT THE CHARACTERS
Maeve - finished her degree and has been on a traditional track, she is engaged to her highschool sweetheart James and has stayed in Wellington. While she has it together on the outside, she is internally questioning everything.
Clara - dropped out of uni and has been traveling and freelancing, her life is looking much less linear. She struggles to maintain stability and while she is also questioning Maeve’s upcoming nuptials, she envies the security that comes with being in one place.
