Vernon God Little
Vernon Little | Theatre
The Project
The graduating class of The Actors' Program 2016 present the Auckland premiere of Vernon God Little.
It's a play for everyone who'd prefer to watch Trump singing '(I've Had) The Time Of My Life' to hearing the crap he's actually saying. It's absurd and unsettling, but no more so than the real world. It's challenging and entertaining and madcap and heartfelt. It's pure theatre, pure and simple.
Written in 2001 by celebrated playwright Tanya Ronder as an adaptation of DBC Pierre's Booker Prize-winning novel, it's almost stupidly relevant to the current bizarre state of American politics and culture. In Pierre's own words "I'm not a satirist. Reality has surpassed satire".
"Holden Caulfield on Ritalin" - The Independent
"Vernon is a brilliant comic creation: hapless, unlucky, cynical, often tragic" - The Guardian
Now our class is looking to raise a little extra money to make this production incredible. We need $1500 to give to our amazing designer Andrew Foster to build a set for our production. Coz our acting is good, but not THAT good, if you know what we mean... We want to build an awesome world in which we can immerse our audiences, deliver a stellar performance, and make a great first impression as we leave The Actors' Program and make our way into the performing arts industry.
