The Project
Umbra is a 15-minute thriller short film set in a post-apocalyptic world, where the darkness or the darkest part of shadows - the umbra - causes people to vanish. Without staying constantly in the light, there is no way to survive. In the aftermath of this global catastrophe, Arthur struggles to survive following the disappearance of his daughter until he encounters Lucia, and young and defiant survivor.
About Umbra:
The story picks up a few months later where Arthur is still surviving in this new post-apocalyptic landscape. Light has become the new currency; there is nothing more valuable. As a result, having any light source in your possession makes you a target. Wanting to avoid conflict at all costs, our protagonist Arthur chooses to live out of a back of a windowless truck.
One afternoon, Arthur is searching the abandoned streets when, unbeknownst to him, 14-year-old Lucia plans to steal from him. Her thievery doesn't go according to plan, and Arthur accidentally slams her hand in a car door. Feeling guilty for the harm he’s caused her, Arthur takes it upon himself to make up for his mistake. Though Arthur wants to help Lucia, he can’t help but reminisce about what happened to Sarah, and how Lucia represents who she could have grown up to be. From here, Arthur and Lucia face the threats the world has left behind and begin to realise how much they need one another, not just to stay alive, but to feel like they belong.
Why we need your help:
We really believe this story is important to tell. It delves into grief, acceptance, and survival. It will have the emotional turmoil audiences expect from a drama, as well as the edge-of-your-seat tension of a thriller. We want to tell this story the best way we can, and we can’t do it without your help.
Our target goal for fundraising campaign is $8,000, with a stretch goal of $8,500.
Your donations will go towards:
Creating a top-notch art department for props, costumes, and set design.
Paying our brilliant actors.

Upcoming film festivals
Our team:
Behind Umbra we have a large passionate group working hard to bring this film to life. We want a story that people can relate to and be moved by, while getting invested in this world.
