Twisted Tides
Tayla Sutton | Film
Overview
Twisted Tides is a Psychological Art house film produced as an AUT’s Screen Production project. It is about a young reporter and a detective who team up to unravel the mystery of the unusual death of a fisherman. However, the call of the ocean that took the life of the fisherman may draw them in as well.
The film’s opening eases into period cinematic conventions which are then jarred against experimental, abstract visuals that follow alongside the story’s descent into the unknown.
Why is this film important?
We are creating something that isn't explored in local cinema here in Aotearoa. Using film as a medium for art and abstraction is important to resurrect the passion they had for film in the 30s. When people are breaking the limits of the camera like we are now that is where the heart of old-school cinema lies.
