The Project

The Project

I have been accepted into an Artist Residency at Traidhos Artist Residency in Mai Rim, Chaing Mai, Thailand. This one month residency will provide me with a studio space, accommodation, the use of the wood work, metal work rooms and a kiln. This residency is called an enhancement residency providing me with mentoring and the space to create, which will further develop my artistic practice.

What this campaign covers

I have created a Boosted campaign to assist me with the costs of materials and insurance overheads. I invite you to join me on this journey. Please donate today and make at happen!

I have applied for Asia New Zealand funding to help with the costs of flights I will be informed of this outcome on the 16th of April.

In Thailand

While I am in Thailand, I will give masters workshops and lead planned art workshops.

The residency is set in 90 acres which includes forest and rice fields, as my current art practice is inspired by nature and the theme of paradise I am going to have a lot of material to work from. I have designed a land art course for the children in the school that I will be leading workshops) we will be interacting with the nature around us, themes of this workshop discuss environment and impermanence and will be photographically documented.

I am very excited to have the opportunity to fully immerse myself in the making process of creating art works. Having recently completed a masters in fine art at Monash University I feel it is very important to my practice as an artist to continue developing the art work and ideas that were initiated in my masters.

How I see this project benefiting New Zealanders.

I have been tutoring fine art and sculpture to children for the past five years in New Zealand/Aotearoa and Australia, this includes working with children who have special needs. I have also recently begun teaching art to adults. The courses that I have designed and will be further developing in Thailand will then be brought back to New Zealand/ Aotearoa, and applied with new techniques/skills gathered to my teaching practice here.

Last year I created a collaborative project ' The Circle Project' with four Thai artist ( exhibiting work in Thailand) I am wishing to extend this net-work and engage further with a New Zealand/ Thailand art exchange, I would like to organise a future collaborative exhibition here in New Zealand/ Aotearoa.
