The Small Town Syndrome
Hannah Barham | Film
Overview
A documentary crew travel down to Ranfurly, NZ, to interview and capture the daily lives, on goings and beliefs of New Zealand's small town folk. They create a film focused on four traditional conservative women during their weekly afternoon tea after church, inevitably capturing some very 'old-school' beliefs and some rather outrageous gossip!
Shockingly it turns out that two of the women have been hiding a rather large secret...
ABOUT:
This 'mockumentary' is an intended satire, pointing fun at and exposing the 'not-so' hidden racism, homophobia and xenophobia that remains rampant in many small towns across Aotearoa. Where some themes and conversations may shock or upset the viewer, it is an unfortunate truth that these issues are not something of the past, and not something that we as a nation should continue to repress.
THE TEAM:
Our team consists of seven Wellington students of creative degrees, with roles varying from Director through to on-set photography and Make-up artistry. We are all passionate and studying towards a future in the film and creative industry, and this project will be great towards our future's.
WHY CHOOSE US?
This bit of funding would truly allow us to hit the ground running in making this project the best it can be, with the best actors, costume, makeup and set. We would love to ensure the highest quality, most entertaining short film - and with a little extra in the budget, it certainly would be!
