The Sea Inside Her

The Project
OVERVIEW
Want to see a 6-foot shark swim through a living room? We got you covered. But we need your help to get this evocative silent film over the last of its post-production hurdles.
In THE SEA INSIDE HER, a loving grandmother is charged with the care of her young grandchild. When their bedtime routine starts to unravel, Grandma grows increasingly frustrated and her deepest fears begin to take on a physical shape. Desperate to protect her grandchild from the emerging dangers, she fights off the terrors surrounding them both with emotional consequences.
In this latest work, award-winning film-maker and choreographer Alyx Duncan, builds on her unique movement-lead filmmaking. Utilising performers, puppets and VFX she creates a lyricism within the frame, an approach she innovated for her previous film THE TIDE KEEPER. The project unites Alyx with contemporary dance icon Kilda Northcott, ex-dancer and writer Michele Powles, producer Lani-Rain Feltham and editor Adam-Luka Turjak, building on their previous work together.
We’re looking for $8,000 to finalise the project’s post-production costs, including removing puppet strings and completing the final colour grade. If you’re interested in supporting a team of artists drawn together to investigate what we do when our fears come to visit, then we’d LOVE your support! Hit donate now.
HOW WILL YOUR DONATION BE USED
The team at OHUfx have toiled long and hard on this project. They’ve already spent hundreds of hours painting out the strings and mechanics of our puppets. Post production house Images and Sound are doing an amazing job with the grade to put the final touches on the film. Funds we received from you go to pay them all for their beautiful work.
If we hit our target early, our stretch goal is $12,000, which will also enable us to contribute towards the hundreds of unpaid work hours of our core creative team (producers, writer, director, editor), and pay some of the film festival admission fees the production team will rack up.
HOW THIS PROJECT WILL GET TO SCREENS
Financing a short film is always tricky, crowd funding is a great way to bring our project to a wider audience and get the funds we need to bring the final aspects over the line.
We invite you to help us finish the film by donating or sharing the campaign, so it can head out into the world to participate in film festival programmes and screen in art galleries as part of a bigger exhibition. Please note this is an all or nothing campaign. Every donation whether big or small counts!
WOULD YOU LIKE TO JOIN US?
THE SEA INSIDE HER is about fear. It’s about the fragility of being able to stay in control of yourself, as the world we once knew starts to disappear from us. With all the dangers of the world ‘out there’ (global warming, plastic and oil pollution, wildlife extinction rates) and imagining the future, it’s easy to come adrift. On top of this, children can make you crazy. If you, like us, find yourself overwhelmed sometimes, tantruming like a child, perhaps you’d like to part of something that speaks to these fears. As big and scary as the dangers are out there, the thing we as creatives try and hold on to, is that art can shine a light and create change. If you’d like to be part of this conversation, we’d love it if you could share the boosted link to any and all you think might be interested in investing too.
