The Place

Hello fellow performing arts lovers! We are Alexis and Courteney, two passionate musical theatre professionals/enthusiasts who want to create a hub of creativity and opportunity for our musical theatre and performing arts community here in Hamilton. We have been fortunate enough to have the opportunity to secure an exciting performing arts friendly space that will become our home.

Now your help is needed to make it happen!

OUR TARGET

While we have the support of the owners of the premises, that does not mean it comes for free. That is why our target for this campaign is $12,000. This will go towards helping with the running costs of the venue and allow us to carry on planning the year of activity ahead.

THE IDEA

‘The Place’ is a new community-focused initiative targeted at performing artists, with a particular focus on musical theatre.

This will be a multi-purpose space that will provide workshops, development programmes, mentoring, classes, and access to an activated space for the wider community for rehearsals and development. 

WHY

Well, in our experience, outside of the spectacles of one-off productions, there currently isn't a home for those of us who may like just a dance class or two outside of a dance studio environment. Or somewhere that enables upskilling in the world of musical theatre/performing arts that isn't tertiary education. 

Both onstage and backstage, there is a growing community of passionate individuals who want to upskill and connect with other like minded people through shared arts experiences. We are committed to bringing a range of expertise to the floor from a multitude of people and organisations to enrich our community and provide a fun place to learn. 

We are also committed to providing space for community groups to allow them to rehearse and develop new works. Being actively involved in regular creative activity is good for the spirit, it benefits both individuals and their communities, and it encourages people to be inquisitive, persistent, imaginative, disciplined and collaborative. And these are important skills for life!

HOW YOU CAN HELP

In order for us to bring 'The Place' to life, we urge you to be part of the story. Whether you have been on stage, behind the scenes or watched as an audience member, you can’t deny the talented and passionate people we have in our local community.

Making a tax-deductible (33%) donation to our campaign and helping us reach (or exceed) our target will go towards helping with the running costs of the premises and allow us to carry on planning the year of activity ahead. If we are lucky enough to exceed our target, the extra money will go towards workshop and development programme costs.

Boosted is an all-or-nothing platform, which means that if we don't reach our target in 30 days, we won't receive a single dollar - all donors will be refunded. If you are behind our vision, you can also help by sharing this campaign far and wide with your networks to help spread the word.
