The Piano

The Piano is committed to establishing and promoting opportunities for emerging artists to create and share their creativity with the world.
As a leading performance venue in Christchurch, The Piano is highly regarded for the quality of its acoustic design and wraparound support services. 

The Piano since its inception has supported Community and Professional Arts. We have observed that Emerging Artists need greater support than we can give them on our own. We have developed an Emerging Artists initiative where the venue and wrap around support is donated by the Piano and our partners to the artist. 

This project is for 5 emerging artists in 2023/24. If funding allows the number will be increased. The Piano is sponsoring the venue and needs funding partnership for lighting, sound, marketing, live streaming, and recording.

The Piano defines ‘emerging’ as those who are early in their artist career (regardless of age), who are gaining momentum and who are at a critical juncture when this support would be most impactful. Artists who show tremendous potential but are not well established professionally or sustaining an income solely from their art form . 

Each recipient will receive:  

·      A public performance opportunity
·      Production support (lighting and sound engineering)
·      A professional recording of their performance
·      The opportunity to have their performance live-streamed
·      Marketing support

The recipients will be a New Zealand resident and have shown evidence of their passion and commitment to pursuing a career in their chosen art form.
