Overview

The Most Important Person in the Room is a short dramatic comedy film. It follows the journey of a young, people-pleasing woman as she attempts to pave her way through the male-dominated business world.

The film is set within a surrealist networking event like no other. She is faced with insufferable mansplaining businessmen at every turn, where ultimately she must step away from the Americanised view of what a successful “girl boss” is. She is forced to build her self-confidence and finally discovers she is always not enough or too much for the room.

Our Why?

Our vision for this film is to give the opportunity for people to reflect on our view of feminism in business and “girl boss” culture in New Zealand. Ultimately, our goal is to give the audience (and even businessmen) something to giggle at.

Our Inspiration

Our inspiration for the film came from numerous experiences with businessmen that almost felt like characters to us. We wanted to bring some of our unsavoury experiences to life in the most exaggerated, comedic way possible.

Our Promise

Our piece will be directed by Tara Bellairs and written and produced by Natasha Gordon. We are both third year Screen Production majors at AUT and will be working on this project as our final film of our degree. This film is very important to us as it is our first opportunity to produce a film of this size as well as to develop skills that we have been learning for the past two years in a way that we will be immensely proud of for years to come. For this film in particular, we can’t wait to have fun and see where it will take us. We have hopes to strengthen working relationships with cast and crew and we have our eyes set on bringing this film to film festival screens.

Our Team

We can't wait to continue working with our amazing cast and crew. Our Executive Producer and Mentor Ross Brannigan will help guide us with his valuable experience in the industry. We also are taking on a full crew of fellow third year AUT Screen Production students that we are confident they share the same vision and skills to produce this wonderful film.

Our Goal

As films aren’t cheap, we would love your support to bring this idea to its fullest potential. We would be immensely grateful for anything you can give if you are in the position to do so. Your kind donations will go to a number of areas within our production, including renting out locations, aiding to cover transport costs for our hard working cast and crew, paying for equipment and most importantly feeding the bellies of everyone on set. We would love to have you on board as a key part of this film’s success because without you there will be no The Most Important Person in the Room film!

If you would like to follow along as we produce this film, please check out our Instagram and Facebook @mostimportantpersonfilm Thank you all in advance, no matter your donation. As a gift from us to you, those who donate more than $50 will have their name as a key supporter in our credits.
