The Hollo(w)ing

The Project
The Hollo(w)ing is an embodied representation of emotional and physical absences. Having physical contact denied by the pandemic has emphasised how integral it is to our relationships and wellbeing, as we struggle against loneliness and depression from the confines of our bubbles. Those who have friends or family abroad face uncertainty as borders are shut, and countries locked down. Our planet has expanded, making any place outside the home bubble more distant.
This is a live dance event that aims to celebrate closeness, even in its absence, and to remind us of how wonderful it will feel to hug our loved ones when this is all over. This 30 minute piece will be streamed live as part of the Tempo Dance Festival's "Going Digital" season. On the 8th and 17th of July, six dancers from around the world will meet on a Facebook Livestream and dance choreographed duets with each other. Our dancers are located in New Zealand, the United States, Germany, Italy, France, and Australia. The aim is to demonstrate that although our borders may be closed, we are still a connected world. Embracing the medium of online connectivity both in theme and in practice, expands our audience worldwide and makes the world seem just a tiny bit smaller.
We are proud to have received funding for this project from Creative New Zealand. Though our baseline expense budget needs are met, we are running this Boosted campaign as an opportunity for our audience to further support our artists for their involvement. All the funds received will go directly to everyone working on and in the show. Thank you for your support!
