Overview

Te Matatiki Toi Ora The Arts Centre is working with local Islamic communities to present a vibrant one-day festival of music that celebrates the diversity of music from far off lands including the Middle East, North and West Africa, Iran and central and south east Asia.

Islamic music is enriched by diverse cultures and traditions it has encountered throughout the world. Ōtautahi is becoming a city of wide cultural diversity – come and celebrate inclusiveness and the range of Islamic music that thrives in our city today!

This will be a free family-friendly festival which will be bursting with live music and colourful cultural performances.

The Arts Centre is a perfect setting for such a festival with a range of outdoor and indoor spaces to suit a variety of performances. Additionally, many design elements in the Gothic Revival buildings here can trace their origins to 7th century Islamic architecture, recognisable to travellers in Palestine, Egypt, and Syria.

We are seeking funding to enable as many communities of musicians, groups and artists as possible to join in the festival, helping fund their development time, transport, refreshments for the day, as well as any staffing and ticketing required in order to keep the festival completely free for all.

YOUR SUPPORT

Your donation helps Te Matatiki Toi Ora to put on the Islamic Music Festival in early summer 2023.

And even better, as part of the Boost Ōtautahi campaign your donation to the Islamic Music Festival project will be matched dollar for dollar by funding from Rātā Foundation, Christchurch City Council and Creative New Zealand, up to $5,000.

So, if you give $50, this is matched by an additional $50, making a total donation of $100! And you can claim a 33% tax credit on your part of the donation, so it only actually costs you $34 to make a $100 difference. Magic.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT.
