The Art of Drug Theft

Overview
When audacious Alex tries to rashly teach her ex-girlfriend a lesson by stealing a baggie from her at a house party, her timid best friend, Poppy’s fears come true as Alex becomes the #1 suspect of the stolen drugs. In a toss up of doing what’s right vs prideful reluctance, Alex and Poppy’s friendship is tested as they take on unexpected roles. What will the duo do when returning the drugs means facing not only a house full of witnesses and the wrath of Alex’s ex, but also the cops too?
‘The Art of Drug Theft’ is an 8 minute comedy/coming of age short film about two friends experiencing the highs and lows of friendship as young people. Their friendship is tested when one of them makes the other a willing accomplice in a small-scale drug heist.
The relationship between Alex and Poppy is at the centre of ‘The Art of Drug Theft’, as they demonstrate the sacrifices we make for our friends; including having to refrain from rubbing in the “I told you so” moment when they’re in their time of need.
‘The Art of Drug Theft’ draws inspiration from shows, such as Euphoria, Sex Education, Heartbreak High mixed with the iconic styles of directors, such as Edgar Wright and Damien Chazelle. Our vision for this project is a dynamic and moving story. We aim to achieve this through creative and bold camera movements, colourful and energetic lighting, and a creative art department. We are eager to tell this story and bring our ideas to light.
