The 2017 Upstream Art Trail

The Upstream Art Trail is a temporary public art exhibition that showcases the work of emerging artists and designers in the beautiful surrounds of Wellington's Central Park. The inaugural event in 2015 was a hit, attracting over 2000 visitors and winning the Best Visual Arts award at the NZ Fringe Festival.

The free event provides a platform for local talent to showcase their work and encourages art-lovers of all ages to explore the Park.

Visitors can view the diverse, site-specific artworks as they wander "Upstream" through Central Park, and kick back and relax in the Upstream beer garden.

We are running the next Upstream Art Trail from March 2-5, 2017. To make it as great as the first we need your support.

THE TALENT

The Art Trail is focused on emerging artists and designers, most likely people who are recent graduates or in the early years of their creative practice.

The chosen artists are mentored by established Wellington practitioner Gabby O'Connor, who also convenes a group artwork by five local primary schools.

HOW YOU CAN HELP

Thanks to generous support from the Wellington City Council and Creative New Zealand we have already secured half the funds we need to run this exciting, not-for-profit event.

We need to raise a further $7,500 to provide our 15 talented artists with the materials and support they need to create their masterpieces.

Every $500 donated will help one emerging artist to design, build, and install their artwork in Central Park.

Any additional funds raised will help us to provide the artists with the platform they deserve by publicising the Art Trail far and wide!

THE ORGANISERS

The Upstream Art Trail is organised by Upstream: Friends of Central Park, a group of enthusiastic volunteers who work with the Wellington City Council to help maintain and develop the Park as a key community asset.
