Textile Artist Residency - Weaving my way to Portugal

The Project
Kia ora. I'm an Auckland based textile artist who makes bags, wall hangings and other woven works. I've been accepted to participate in a month-long textile residency at the Vale de Gatos Textile Centre in Portugal, in May 2019.
It is the cost of this residency which I am looking for support with from my wider community. The cost covers:
- technical support
- use of a fully equipped textile studio
- access to materials
- accommodation and meals
Weaving has incredibly rich traditions, there's so much to learn! I began weaving in 2016 when I inherited a beautiful loom from the late notable Thames weaver Grace Rushton. My weaving journey so far is a result of one-to-one tuition, self-learning and involvement with the Auckland Handweavers Guild. In 2018 I was also fortunate enough to be one of a small number of young artists accepted into the inaugural Big Idea mentoring programme.
Undertaking this residency will enable me to develop my skills by having access to and becoming familiar with more advanced equipment than I have in my own home-studio. Having a month dedicated to creating new work, supported by expert guidance, is an opportunity not available in New Zealand which will greatly accelerate my practice. You can check out more about where I'm going here.
I was particularly drawn to this residency because of the sustainable character of the centre. They spin and weave with fibre from their own sheep, which I will have access to. As a weaver committed to pursuing a sustainable practice the opportunity to experience how these principles can be practically applied is a powerful drawcard for me.
I'll be showing the results of my months' work at a local exhibition in Portugal, and on returning home to NZ will be developing my new skills in preparation for a show at Auckland's Studio One in September-October 2019. This will be a joint exhibition with fellow textile artist Felixe Laing. Our show will be a chance to show the result of my learning, I hope to see my Auckland based supporters there !
Please support me by:
