Terminal Lake
Andrew Blackman | Film
Overview
We're turning to our community to help raise $30,000 to create our next big project – a film about survival.
Terminal Lake follows a nameless man searching a desert for water. He hopes a lake lies beyond the horizon, so he runs blindly toward it. Does he make it? That is up for interpretation.
The Story is a Metaphor for the World Right Now
Climate change, a global pandemic, and now another war - we live in uncertain times. What if civilisation keeps running in the same direction, like the man in our movie? Is there hope on our horizon?
We are making this film to raise these questions and to provoke thought and self-reflection in audiences.
The Environment is the Antagonist
The antagonist is our location, Te Onetapu - one of just a few volcanic deserts on earth. It is a beautiful place, yet it is hostile and feels post-apocalyptic.
It is a privilege to shoot in Te Onetapu. We are working with Ngāti Tūwharetoa to learn about kaitiakitanga and how to minimise our impact on this sacred place.
How you can help
We are ready to shoot. But to bring this film to life, we need your help. We are raising $30,000 to cover the hard cost of production, including paying our crew fairly, travel, food and accommodation, and keeping our people safe on location in the desert.
Our investors (now match and seed donors) have got us close, but we can not access that money unless we reach our target. Boosted is all or nothing. We cannot do it without you! 🙏
Team
- Actor Jordan Mooney (The Panthers, Westside, Romper Stomper).
- Writer/Director Andrew Blackman (Inferno, Eight Years Later, If In Doubt Paddle Out)
- Producer Emma Mortimer (Maria, Take a Bow, That Workmans Arms, The Calf)
- Executive Producer Moomin Kheir (Creative Director, Impact By Design)
- Cinematographer Adam Luxton (Reunion, This Town, On an Unknown Beach)
Our team is incredibly passionate about this story. We have spent over a year developing this film.
Our Goal
Make a powerful, thought-provoking zeitgeist movie. And, because the concept addresses the most salient issue civilisation has ever confronted, we have a shot at the A-listers. Cannes, Sundance, SXSW et al. - here we come. We want you along for the ride!
Actors Statement
"To prepare for this role, I walked Te Onetapu for four days and nights alone with the bare minimum needed to survive. Minimal water, no food, sleeping rough. It was gruelling, but what I learnt was how to embody a character deprived of basic needs"
- Jordan Mooney.
Directors Statement
"I feel very strongly about the themes in this movie. But pitching it based on ecological or ethical, even existential, terms alone does not do it justice. It is a self-reflexive exploration of our collective anxieties, hopes and dreams, with sparks of loose freeform psychedelia and a sense of black comedy. For me, the entire premise of this story is up for interpretation, and the journey within it is an inward one."
- Andrew Blackman.
Stay Tuned
We are sharing regular content featuring location scouts, camera tests and a video diary of Jordan solo in Te Onetapu.
Thank you! We are grateful for any support you can offer. E mihi ana ki a koutou katoa.
