Tautai o Tuvalu Camp/Events
Tautai o Tuvalu - Tuvalu Students' Association | Multi Discipline
The Project
WHO ARE WE AND WHY ARE WE HOLDING A CAMP?
Tautai o Tuvalu is a students' association at Victoria University of Wellington. Our aim in organizing this camp is to foster cultural growth and connection among our members. This camp offers a rare opportunity to immerse themselves in their cultural heritage while navigating the challenges of studying in a Western institution.
Due to the limited public recognition of Tuvalu, we don't have the opportunity to be a part of a conference that brings together Tuvaluan student associations from across New Zealand. As a result, we've initiated this camp to develop cultural awareness and familiarize our members with Tuvaluan culture through activities such as dancing, singing, cultural workshops, and other creative endeavors. The camp serves as a platform for creative collaboration, where participants can exchange ideas and learn from each other, thereby enriching their artistic skills. This camp will provide a unique opportunity for our members to connect with their cultural roots and celebrate our heritage in an environment where such expressions are often underrepresented.
This camp will be a significant milestone for our association as it will be our very first camp.
WHY SHOULD YOU SUPPORT US?
The camp will provide a platform for Tuvaluan students to connect with their roots and share their rich cultural heritage with non-Tuvalu students who are keen to learn about the Tuvalu culture, and the wider community. This includes traditional arts, crafts, music, dance, and storytelling—integral aspects of Tuvaluan identity. By supporting our camp, you are helping to preserve these cultural expressions and ensuring they are passed down to future generations.
WHERE WILL YOUR DONATIONS GO?
Donations for the camp will be allocated to several key areas to ensure a successful and enriching experience for all participants:
- Travel
- Accommodation
- Food
- Equipment
THANK YOU!
Fakafetai lahi—thank you so much for your generous support! Your contributions are making a world of difference for our first-ever camp. Your kindness is helping us create a unique and meaningful experience where our members can connect deeply with the Tuvaluan heritage.
