Tarawera on Tour
Tarawera High School | Theatre
The Project
Tarawera High School, Kawerau has been open for the past five years. Performing Arts subjects have grown in popularity with courses being developed significantly to cater to students needs. This year, sees students forming their own theatre company 'Full Swing Productions' which formulates part of a multi-level performing arts course offered to year 11-13 students.
Students are to perform George Orwell's 'Animal Farm' which will be toured in the local area. They will not only perform but also manage front of house and backstage work giving them the opportunity to develop their knowledge of onstage and backstage roles as well as earn credits in Drama, Dance and Performing Arts Technology.
Our intention is to perform two performances at our school in Kawerau before taking our show on the road to Whakatane, Edgecumbe and Murupara enabling communities to see live theatre in more rural locations. The funding we hope to receive will go towards production and travel costs, as our company is forty students strong. We would also like to offer our performance in Edgecumbe free to the general public to support those recently affected by the devastating flooding.
