Strangers - Short Film

Overview
Kia ora! We need your help and support to bring our short film, “Strangers”, to life.
We've got a really exciting opportunity for you to support a fantastic team of filmmakers and to help foster innovation and creativity in the New Zealand film industry!
It would mean a lot to us if you could help spread the word about our campaign. Without full funding for "Strangers" we won't be able to bring this vision to life.
Your contribution will help us cover every aspect of the production, including entry fees for local and global film festivals. And that's not all - as a donor, you'll also get a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the film, including rehearsals, location scouting and more! We'll keep you updated every step of the way and make sure you're a part of this amazing journey.
Below is our spectacular crew that we are so fortunate to have on for "Strangers"! Cast to be announced soon!
Ngā mihi nui,
James

We've all been there. The nervousness, the pressure. Making. That. First. Impression.
Well in this film, let's just say... Nigel knows how to create a lasting impression.
"Could it get ANY worse?"
"Strangers" is a five minute short film about just this. Set in a lush beautiful cafe on the perimeter of Auckland City, an awkward journalist's first date is upended by a man spotted in the cafe window.
A big thank you to Isaac Yu, owner of Semicolon Cafe, for allowing us to use his cafe for filming! They are our key sponsor for "Strangers".
We meet:
- Our protagonist, NIGEL WILSON. A young writer working for the University paper. "Mr Wrong", if you will.
- Our love interest, EVELYN IRIS, is she the sunshine in Nigel's life?
- Our antagonist, FELIX GREEN - part-time bartender, part-time menace.
- DARCY OWENS, our cafe waitress. She balances a plate on one arm and impatience on the other.
- And... GLORIA, our Cafe Patron.
In just the short span of these five minutes, each character goes on a colourful rollercoaster of their own. We need your help to bring it to life.

I'm so excited to be able to bring my passion for storytelling and filmmaking to this campaign, and I can't wait to work with this incredible team to create something truly special. Together, we're going to make something truly amazing happen!
I want to give a shoutout to some amazing people who have helped us along the way! Big thanks to Thomas Fink-Jensen for his incredible script feedback and storyboarding skills, and to Shannon Menehira, Lana Stringer, Sean Hixson, and Raul Sharma for their valuable script feedback as well.
Auckland Table Reads played an integral role in the development of "Strangers" by providing us with a platform to showcase our work through the exceptional performances of a group of highly talented actors. We are incredibly grateful for their support and contribution to our project!
I’d like to give a special thanks to members of the Directors and Editors Guild of Aotearoa New Zealand, Vice President Steven Chow and ex-Vice President Gabriel Reid. I appreciate their guidance. As a member of the Guild, I've utilised workshops to enhance my film craft.
Thank you for supporting us and the Arts!
Project Updates
“Strangers” is done!
We couldn’t have done it without our talented cast, crew, extras, Boosted donors and the support of friends and family!
Written in late 2022, it’s been a rewarding few months creating this film.
Pictured - a behind the scenes shot from the day. Thanks to Hamish Graham for his photography.
Now time to hit the film festival circuit.
Onto the next short film!
