Overview
'Stereotypes Of A Polynesian Misunderstood' is a ten track album by Ōtautahi rapper and songwriter Big Sima.
ABOUT THE ALBUM
This album explores many different obstacles in the life of a Polynesian, from racism, to addiction, childhood trauma and single parent households. I wrote this project in 2020 and this album is about being a recovering addict. It gained a huge amount of positive feedback, mostly from men who had been in my same situation.
MUSIC WITH A PURPOSE
I knew at that moment that this next project would be full of stories that would hopefully help others who may have been on the same journey. I know that music can be healing - for me personally, it’s always been therapeutic, and I want to contribute to someone’s healing by telling stories through the art of rhyme.
I truly believe that, besides being a parent, this is my purpose. Before books were invented, every village would have a story teller who would keep the stories and pass them on to the next generation. That's how I see myself. As great as the responsibility is, I feel at peace with it in my heart.
HELP US MAKE IT HAPPEN
So far, I have invested close to $4,200 into creating this project. Luckily, I have been able to raise at least %50 of that from gigs, but the remainder has come out of my own pocket.
With your generous contribution, we will be able to cover costs for:
- mixing
- mastering
- visuals and creative
- merchandise (which will generate profitable revenue to reinvest)
ABOUT LUCAS / BIG SIMA AND TIKI TAANE
My gift has always been as lyricist, delivering relatable stories. I am honored to be working with Tiki Taane, who is without a shadow of doubt one of this country's greatest producers. This is our second project, the first of which "The Underground King EP" has had success on the charts, the radio and has been streamed almost one million times across all platforms.
Besides our professional relationship we are also 'friends like family'. As well as his hand in the production, Tiki also features on the album, alongside a many other talented contributing artists.
UPCOMING SHOWS
For my South Island donors, I am stoked to announce that I'll be playing a show in Christchurch on the 6th November at HIDE Club, where I will be showcase the album. For my North Island donors, I have just been added to the line up for 'Sound Splash 2022' so there are a couple of opportunities to see me live in the next 6 months.
The dream for me is to release this album and give it the best chance of success as possible, as I send it out into the world. That means doing everything we can to help it reach its full potential during pre- and post-production.
With your help, I believe this can be achieved.
Arohanui,
Lucas
