Speed Dancing
Move Ōtautahi Inc. | Multi Discipline
The Project
, Ōtautahi’s new centre for movement arts (dance, circus, physical theatre etc.) is opening in late 2025 in its home at Parakiore Recreation and Sport Centre.
We need your support now to build momentum in the community through our pilot projects that make movement as a form of human expression accessible to all.
This campaign is to deliver one of MOVE’s 'gap year' projects – Speed Dancing, not just once but twice
OUR CAMPAIGN
Speed Dancing
Think speed dating but with dance.
Try six different styles in one social night with up to 100 people. If you enjoy a style, sign up for full-length classes over the next four weeks. Keep dancing by joining your studio of choice after your Speed Dancing experience.
EVENT HIGHLIGHTS TO DATE
Speed Dancing continues to be well received in Ōtautahi. Originally launched at the Body Dance Festival, the concept was successfully re-introduced by MOVE earlier this year. It is a collaborative model supporting existing dance studios and professionals while introducing you to a different way of moving in a fun and integrated way.
In our two recent blocks of Speed Dancing, people tried Capoeira, Latin, Tango, Hip-Hop, Breakdancing, Irish, Scottish Country, Contemporary, African, Physical Clowning and Rock n Roll. The workshops were run in a social setting with nearly all participants commenting on how much fun they had trying different styles and many have gone on to sign up for regular classes.
