SOAPBOX "Deluxe" - A Show Empowering All Women and Non-Binary Performers

Monfu is delighted to announce the inaugural SOAPBOX "Deluxe”, a sparkling show of all women and non-binary performing artists, curated from our monthly SOAPBOX shows!

SOAPBOX "Deluxe" will feature a fabulous mix of comedy, music, poetry and variety, just like our monthly SOAPBOX open-mics, but instead of their new material, the artists will be presenting some of their best and practiced sets and they'll all get paid for their work.

Why is this show important and why should I support it?

SOAPBOX is a monthly open-mic in Wellington, featuring all women and non-binary performing artists. We started SOAPBOX in April 2022 with the aim to create a safe and fun space for all women and non-binary performing artists of all disciplines to try new material and acts in a supportive environment. We've had comedians, musicians, variety performers, clowns and poets, and cannot be more proud of the beautiful community it has created. We need more spaces like this that encourage, nurture and empower all women and non-binary artists to share their work.

Why now?

We've just had the 10th SOAPBOX show and what would be better than to create a show to feature what some of the past SOAPBOX artists have been working on. We are planning to make this a regular thing in 2024, but to celebrate all of the ten shows we've done so far, it feels like the timing is perfect to elevate the performers further by creating a weekend show opportunity. 

How will the money be used?

Your generous contribution will fund: 

• MC and the performers fees
• Technician, front of the house and stage manager fees
• Artistic Directors fees
• Marketing (poster campaign, social media ads)

Team

Monfu is a Wellington-based boutique production company run by Sachie Mikawa and Trent H Baumann. With decades of experience in circus, theatre, comedy and music, and having toured to twenty countries and collecting many accolades, we aim to create high quality shows of an international standard. Since moving to Aotearoa in 2018, Monfu is committed to nurturing diversity and cultivating a more inclusive and vibrant community.
