Snare

The Project
Snare is our Thesis Project for our final year of our Creative Media Production degree at Massey University.
THE FILM.
Snare is a 12 minute suburban thriller film about Simon, a young adult who wakes up and finds himself surrounded by three strangers. They claim to be his family, but Simon has no memory of them. Worse, Simon is trapped in the confines of the house - facing a nightmarish reality that those around him dismiss as delusions. To uncover the truth, Simon is forced to question this family’s intentions.
Snare is a psychological thriller film which twists the conventions of the thriller on its head, deconstructing genre tropes and delving into a family’s struggle to unite during difficult circumstances.
Our aim is to create a unique and memorable experience. We want to take the audience on a journey through Simon’s fears and paranoia, to reveal the truth of his circumstance as well as the heart breaking results.
Snare strives to break free from the villainization of mental illness which is typical in films of this genre. Characters are often framed in a violent manner - as homicidal maniacs or abusers.
Massey University and The School of Music and Media have provided our team with the use of professional, cinema-quality equipment. This gives us the creative freedom to truly make our film look unique and enhance the on-set experience of this project. Furthermore, Snare will feature an original soundtrack with an experimental soundscape created specifically for the film.
THE TEAM.
Our diverse team comprises passionate filmmakers ready to showcase our abilities and ourselves as emerging creatives in the New Zealand film industry. Our group has come together out of passion - a common gravitation towards stories which are thought provoking and re-imaginative in nature. We have been creatively collaborating together throughout our university experience, which has made us a tight-knit team, eager to work with one another alongside our enthusiastic second-year assistants.

THE ASK.
To realise our project to its fullest potential at a professional standard we need your help. Snare needs to raise $3850 to launch our initial production. Snare’s production costs include actor’s fees, hair and makeup, set dressing, props, costumes, ensuring adequate health and safety equipment, and distribution costs for Snare to have a life beyond the university. We would appreciate any financial contribution to help us create this unique and exciting short film.
