The Project

Elizabeth Olsen, Jessica Alba, Rose Byrne and Gina Rodrieguez... all fierce wāhine that have passed through the doors of the Atlantic Acting School. One Day, I hope my name will be added to the list.

At the end of 2021, I was accepted into the Atlantic Acting School and my dream of going to study in New York at a world renowned acting conservatory was reignited.

And the journey begins again but, I'm going to need your help to get there.

The Goal...

$3000 in 30 days.

Bold? Yes.

Doable? Let's see!

With your help, the money raised will help pay for my student visa and also help towards my travel expenses.

Realistically, the amount I need to study for the two and a half years sits around $125,000NZD. Bit daunting right?

I feel incredibly thankful to have received a small scholarship from Atlantic based on the strength of my application. This scholarship goes towards my fees for the duration of study. I have been working incredibly hard to save the remainder of the money.

So who am I?

My name is Kate Low and I am a 22 year old actor from Timaru.

The earliest and debatably, most iconic start to my love of the arts was when I was four. I declared I was a ballerina and gracefully proceeded to bounce around like a hippo, then fell over. Safe to say things got better from there.

From a young age I started laying a firm foundation of performance skills that I have continued to build on over the years. Ballet classes turned to singing lessons, singing lessons turned to theatre camps, theatre camps to many shows and performances. All through high school I did music and drama as well as completing Trinity Speech and Drama exams. It all led to an ever growing passion for theatre and a fledgling acting career.

In 2019 I attended the Summer Conservatory at the Stella Adler Studio of Acting in New York. This was phenomenal experience that completely opened my eyes as a young actor. It also opened me up to the wider world of training outside of New Zealand. While at Stella, I auditioned for their professional Conservatory. I was delighted to receive an acceptance letter and planned to attend the following year. And then the year 2020 hit and well, we all know what happened there.

As an artist, I have always been interested in using theatre for positive change. There is such a power in the intimate shared experience that an audience has when watching theatre. I want to tell stories that challenge an audience and promote conversations about confronting topics. Most recently, I have performed in the 2020 and 2021 seasons of Aidan Theatre touring show of "Too Much Punch for Judy" written by Mark Wheeler.

I am thrilled to now be able to pursue more training as an actor at the Atlantic acting school.

What am I doing to make it happen

Working my butt off, that's for sure! Since I was accepted I have been hard at work, at times working five jobs.

As well as my part-time job as an office administrator I have been working as a bartender, Virtual Assistant and i have been co-running Burnt Sugar Media.

There has been minimal free time but hey, best way to save money right!
