The Project
SIVA AFI IS BACK!
Following the success of our 2022 BoostedXMoana campaign, Siva Afi Aotearoa is seeking support for this extend initiative of siva afi workshops in both Whau and Mangere areas from August 2024 to March 2025.
With an endless list of talented and experience tutors we aim to continue to provide meaningful programs in the local community that are about building young people's self-esteem, reconnecting families and FREE, so our workshops are more accessible to everyone.Seven months of collective engagement and mini projects which culminates to workshop participants showcasing their siva afi and drumming skills to various events and festivals during the Christmas period (November to December 2024) and during the Pasifika Festival month of March 2025.
The two areas of community workshops:
- Whau - West Auckland
- Mangere - South Auckland.
The highlight for our 7-month project will be participants part-taking in the International Siva Afi Festival to be held at the Mangere Arts Centre (Mangere, Auckland), in March 2025.
A RESILIENT AND INCLUSIVE COMMUNITY - in the past 5 years our workshops in both Whau and Mangere brought together all ages and abilities in an intergenerational environment of active learning, which incorporated cultural awareness, practice without judgment, around the traditional art form of Siva Afi. Our experience shows that the involvement of the whole whanau plus cultural awareness are a formula for a resilient and inclusive community.
