The Project
Kia ora!
Wallflower Productions is returning to The New Zealand Fringe Festival with our newest show "Sing Me the Sweetest Songs."
“Sing Me the Sweetest Songs” is a coming of age queer dramedy, centring the relationships of five friends as they reunite at their final summer camp before finishing school. It is a tale of self-discovery, desire, and “girlhood.” In the backdrop of a Christian summer camp in rural Aotearoa, our friends navigate what it means to grow up queer, (especially when this conflicts with their religion) and just how scary getting older is.
Your koha will go directly to supporting local Pōneke theatre makers and artists - share the word with your friends and whānau and let's get this mahi to BATS Theatre!
You can see "Sing Me the Sweetest Songs" at BATS Theatre in The Dome Stage, from the 4th-8th of March at 7:00pm.

The Funding
Where does your koha go?
Wallflowers' primary goal of this campaign is to financially support our cast and crew. At Wallflowers, we believe in compensating our cast and crew for their tireless mahi in creating our show! Your koha will go directly towards supporting emerging queer, femme, and non-cis artists!
Your koha is what supports us in making art for our communities. Supporting local artists is how we can continue to bring our mahi to stage (and we can't wait to show it to you all in March)!
Additionally, these funds take pressure off of our budget and allows us to cover our core production costs, such as...
- Set material costs
- Venue hire fees
- Music Licensing fees
- Poster and programme printing costs
- Social media advertising costs
Good to knows!
- Did you know that Boosted is an "all or nothing" platform? That means, if we don't reach our target, we won't receive any funds - the pressure is on, let's get this show to Fringe!
- Boosted takes a 10% fee of our crowdsourcing funds
- BATS Theatre takes a 20% profit share of our overall box office ticket sales
You can claim 33% tax back on your donations
Every donation, big or small counts! Even sharing our campaign with your friends and whānau helps!
The Details
The Creative Process!
"Sing Me the Sweetest Songs" was written over the course of 2024 by Josie Eastwood. Our cast and crew are rehearsing over a 9-week period, working collaboratively to stage this show and reflect our company's experiences and communities!
Mia Page is choreographing movement and dance numbers and Josie Eastwood is musical-directing / writing songs for the show too! - (we think you'll love it!)
Show info!
We believe there is something for everyone in this show! Whether that's connecting to queer stories and characters, reflecting on the whirlwind that is leaving school, or connecting with themes of identity and self-discovery. The show is also a whole lot of fun! Expect to see dancing, singing, and a ton of tension!
We are making this show to highlight the complexity between queer identity and religion, to build our community, and showcase queer joy! Get ready for a performance full of nostalgia and real, heart-warming characters!
The Impact
The relationship between queer identity and religion is complex and is at the centre of many sociopolitical conversations. "Sing Me the Sweetest Songs" brings greater nuance to these discussion and our characters are able to explore this relationship (the good, bad, and in-between) from a queer-lens.
In our current social climate celebrating, supporting, and uplifting queer voices is crucial. Thank you for all of your aroha and support - we cannot wait to see you at Fringe!
