Silence Awareness Existence artists residency
Mary MacGregor-Reid | Visual Art
Overview
This January I will be attending the 'Silence Awareness Existence' artist's residency programme at Arteles in South-West Finland. I would love your support to help me create new work that I can bring back to New Zealand.
I have been selected from 273 applicants to spend the month of January with 6 other New Zealand artists in the snowy quiet of the Finnish countryside. The purpose of the Silence Awareness Existence residency is to take artists out of the chaos and stress of their everyday lives to spend a month concentrating on their art practice.
My own practice delves into human experience of the otherwordly, of the boundaries between science and mysticism, primarily through video and object making. I believe that having the chance to spend time, both in solitude and with the other artists from around the world, will allow me to produce new work that would be difficult to create amid the hectic demands of my day-to-day work life in Auckland.
Attending an New Zealand residency like Arteles is an invaluable experience for New Zealand artists. It gives us the chance to connect with the New Zealand art community, to meet potential collaborators and to give our work exposure to a wider audience.
Any money you choose to contribute will go towards the creation of the work itself rather than for my travel and expenses. As Boosted is a purely altruistic platform for NZ creative endeavours I am not able to offer any material rewards for your support, but I will use the work created in Finland to have a show in New Zealand. I am also sure that the time spent at Arteles will give me plenty of material for the creation of new work in 2017.
I would be very grateful if you could share this page with your friends and family. Thank you for supporting me and contemporary art in New Zealand.
