‘We know what we are, but know not what we may be.’ Hamlet, Act 4 Scene 5
As I look to 2024, I knew I would be beginning university, however I knew not that I would be fortunate enough to be selected as a member of the Shakespeare Globe Centre New Zealand Young Shakespeare Company 2024 (SGCNZ YSC). This means I have been selected among other young performers to perform at Shakespeare's Globe Theatre in London next year!
While selection for this company was a challenge, I now face a challenge of an entirely different kind; paying my way to The Globe. For a gigantic Shakespeare nerd and avid performer, this is a once in a lifetime opportunity to pursue my passion for theatre, and in particular, Shakespeare.
While working over summer, I will be saving funds for both university and for the YSC trip, which is set for July of 2024. The highest estimated cost for my trip is set for $11,000 and this, combined with the cost of first year university, is a daunting prospect. This is why I want your support. My campaign goal is set at $3000, this would cover the majority of the cost of Airfares.
Having been involved in community theatre here in Tauranga for many years now, and in the last two years fallen in love with the works of Shakespeare, this opportunity is a dream come true. The knowledge I have gained from SGCNZ programmes already has been infinitely valuable to me and I hope to share that knowledge with others, particularly youth, to help them develop performance skills and community through the arts. Having been a member of youth theatre programmes in Tauranga, I know how impactful this is and I want to help keep these running. I can only imagine what I might gain from this opportunity at Shakespeare's Globe.
