Send Alicia to the Royal Northern College of Music
Alicia Cadwgan | Music
Overview
My name is Alicia Cadwgan and I am a Wellington-based soprano who dreams of singing on the world stage. In September, I will follow this dream and move to Manchester to begin a Master of Music in Vocal Studies and Opera at the Royal Northern College of Music.
Why Opera?
I have been singing since I could speak and can't imagine life without bursting into song at every opportunity (just ask my family!). My love for opera began in high school after seeing a performance of Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro and what the human voice is capable of still amazes me today. When I listen to an exceptional singer, it is always such an inspirational and emotional experience and I want to be able to share that with others. It is incredibly fulfilling to perform, giving audiences an experience that takes them out of their ordinary lives and into the fantastic and sometimes absurd world of opera.
I studied at the New Zealand School of Music under Margaret Medlyn and Richard Greager and graduated in 2016 with a Bachelor of Music and Postgraduate Diploma of Music (with Distinction). I also hold a Bachelor of Arts in French and Italian language from Victoria University of Wellington.
I perform frequently; a big highlight of this year was touring with Wanderlust Opera as Susanna in The Marriage of Figaro. Imagine my joy at being involved in a production of the same opera that inspired my love for the art form! I feel that I have made the most out of opportunities in New Zealand and now need to move abroad to continue growing as a performer and follow my dream of becoming a professional opera singer.
The Road Ahead
I am so fortunate to have been offered a place and partial scholarship to attend the RNCM. However, New Zealand fees are very expensive so I still need to raise $20,000 to complete my tuition fees. This Boosted page will constitute the last of my fundraising efforts and go towards tuition fees and living costs. Thank you so much for your support - it is greatly appreciated and will not be forgotten! I am immensely grateful for your help on this journey. Please know that I couldn't do it without you.
Much love and forever thankful,
Alicia xx
