The Project

We're bringing legendary saxophonist and entrepreneur Scott Page (Pink Floyd, Supertramp, Toto) to Ōtautahi for an unprecedented week of creative excellence. This collaboration will span three extraordinary events: an appearance at Mary Hush VII immersive arts experience, an exclusive creative business masterclass for local artists, and an intimate Pink Floyd tribute concert featuring Scott alongside some of New Zealand's most visionary musicians in a transformed heritage space. Your support will help cover international travel, artist fees, technical requirements, and venue costs—creating lasting bridges between international innovation and local talent while offering Christchurch a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to experience this musical pioneer in intimate, creatively charged settings.

The Team

This project is an initiative of the Cetacea Foundation, an organization dedicated to bridging international cultures through music and technology. Spearheaded by Mango Dogwood, a friend of Scott Page, this effort brings together a network of creative forces, including the Exchange Christchurch Charitable Trust (a Christchurch-based arts incubator) and Mary Hush, one of New Zealand’s pioneering immersive arts collectives.

Emerging from the dynamic creative hub of Exchange Christchurch (XCHC)—a charitable trust that has been fostering Ōtautahi’s artistic community since 2014—this collaboration builds upon a legacy of innovation in immersive art. Together, the organizing team has led the Mary Hush events for over five years, transforming abandoned spaces into extraordinary sensory experiences where the boundaries between art and audience dissolve.

The Mary Hush collective is a vibrant assembly of visual artists, musicians, lighting designers, and installation creators. Working alongside renowned local talents such as award-winning artist Calla and musical director Michael Sutherland, our team has built a reputation for crafting transformative, otherworldly experiences that exist beyond the mainstream.

At the heart of our work is the belief that art should not just be seen but lived—an experience shared between audience and creators in a space where traditional barriers disappear.

This collaboration with Scott Page marks a new chapter, blending global perspectives with local creative voices to push the boundaries of immersive art.

The Funding

Your $15,000 contribution through this Boosted campaign directly supports the two most critical aspects of this project:

1. Bringing Scott Page to Aotearoa

This funding ensures we can successfully bring an iconic international artist to New Zealand, covering the substantial costs of international travel, accommodation, and logistics. Without this essential support, this unprecedented creative exchange simply cannot happen.

2. Fair Pay for New Zealand Artists

We refuse to ask local artists to work for "exposure." This funding ensures that every musician, visual artist, and creative contributor receives fair compensation that recognizes their professional value and world-class talent. When our artists share the stage with an international icon, they deserve to be paid accordingly.

This is not just about creating exceptional experiences—it's about building a sustainable creative ecosystem where artists are properly valued. Your contribution directly impacts the livelihoods of New Zealand's creative community while making possible a series of extraordinary events that would otherwise be beyond reach.

Every dollar raised beyond our target will further increase artist compensation and expand opportunities for more local creatives to participate in this unprecedented collaboration.

The Exchange Christchurch Charitable Trust manages all funds with complete transparency and a firm commitment to these core priorities.

The Details

This initiative brings legendary saxophonist and entrepreneur Scott Page to Ōtautahi for a week-long creative convergence that spans multiple artistic dimensions. The project unfolds across three connected but distinct experiences:

Mary Hush VII: "It's Time" (April 5th)

Mary Hush has established itself as one of New Zealand's most unique immersive arts experiences, transforming abandoned spaces into environments where sound, visual art, and human connection intertwine.

For this seventh iteration, Scott Page will contribute his iconic saxophone to the opening ceremony, collaborating with a stellar band featuring some of New Zealand's profound musical talents.

Throughout the night, his audio experiments produced with electronic artists will be showcased alongside visual projects and installations exploring the theme of "Time."

Creative Business Masterclass (April 8th)

Beyond his musical innovation, Scott Page has pioneered entrepreneurial approaches within the creative industries. This intimate masterclass offers local artists unprecedented access to Scott's expertise in navigating the business side of creativity.

Participants will gain insights into:
✅ Sustainable creative practice
✅ Building global connections
✅ Translating artistic vision into viable business models

These insights are typically inaccessible to New Zealand’s creative community, making this session a rare and valuable opportunity.

"A Night with Scott Page" Concert (April 10th)

The week culminates in an intimate musical experience within a heritage building transformed into an immersive exhibition space.

Scott will perform alongside carefully selected New Zealand musicians, creating a unique sonic experience that pays tribute to the incredible songs of Pink Floyd, including well-known tracks from Dark Side of the Moon and other albums.

Special for contributors:
✔️ Private meet-and-greet with Scott Page
✔️ Vinyl record signings
✔️ A multisensory immersive experience exploring the theme of "Time"

The Impact

For Local Artists

When international icons and local talent truly collaborate, it transforms career trajectories. Scott’s involvement provides New Zealand artists not just with performance opportunities, but with meaningful connections to global networks, professional development, and validation on an international scale.

For Our Community

Christchurch deserves world-class creative experiences that smaller cities rarely access. This collaboration brings an iconic musical innovator into intimate settings that commercial tours simply cannot offer.

For Ōtautahi’s Cultural Identity

As our city continues to grow, projects like this signal that Christchurch belongs on the global creative map—not just as recipients of international culture, but as active participants in its creation.

For Creative Sustainability

By insisting on fair compensation for all artists involved, this project helps establish a precedent that values creative work appropriately. Each fairly paid opportunity strengthens the ecosystem, allowing artists to continue their practice and contribute to our cultural landscape.

Long-Term Legacy

The connections formed, skills developed, and creative boundaries expanded during this week will continue generating value long after the final notes fade.

Supporting this project means investing in several extraordinary moments while simultaneously building lasting creative infrastructure for Ōtautahi.
