The Project
Kia ora and Talofa,
We are Ura Tabu Pacific Dance and our goal is to put ourselves forward as the leading female Pacific dance company actively perpetuating a 'tapu' and empowering approach to Pacific dance that nourishes our communities.
Our mission derives from a collective female response to reignite the sacredness of our dances from the Pacific as a way of re-establishing interconnectedness, collective wellbeing and unity that ultimately cultivates female empowerment, bold creativity and fine Pacific performance art.
We offer mindful dance fitness classes, mindful children's classes, innovative indigenous lead collaborations and cultural mentoring programs through Pacific movement and embodied philosophies.
As part of upholding our mission, we are investing in 'Cultural Immersions' that will ensure our skills and knowledge of Pacific culture is developed, deepened and reintegrated into the multi-faceted roles and pathways Ura Tabu has set up for our people in T?maki Makaurau over the years.
Our 'Samoa Cultural Immersion' will take place September 1st - 10th 2019 to coincide with the Teuila Cultural Festivities. During this time, we will:
1) Facilitate workshops with S.P.A.C.E (Samoa Performing Arts & Creative Excellence)
2) Teuila Festival Performances
3) Pasifika Mind & Body public event
4) Visit cultural and natural landmarks promoting Samoa, optimal health and wellbeing through the forms of Siva.
To ensure all our practitioners gain this crucial learning experience, we are looking to raise $4,000 dollars to help cover traveling costs while in Samoa.
We are hoping that you could help us reach that goal.
We believe that our values and services are in line with what our local communities need.
By supporting this campaign, you will be helping us to:
- Continue to lead and grow healthy Pacific Performing art communities in Aotearoa
- Nurture and create meaningful connections across Te Moana nui a kiwa with family origins, ancestral and spiritual homes that further enrich our Kaupapa Pasifika
- Uplift Pacific dance to a sustainable, professional and boldly creative standard
Ura Tabu Pacific dance thanks you in advance for your time, consideration and koha.
Ng? mihi nui, fa'afetai tele lava, Ura Tabu Pacific Dance
