The Team
Ruckus Theatre Company is a creative collective based in Te Whanganui-a-Tara. Best known for its award-winning multi-city touring production, Antarctic Endeavours. We are dedicated to producing innovative and experimental work that makes a 'ruckus' and shocks the status quo.
Equilibrium is a fashion design brand led by Olivia Ferguson, a Massey University graduate. Her label juxtaposes ideas to bring a playful perspective on how we value dress. Olivia has contributed her work to various established productions and is currently preparing for her next major project under her own brand, The Dress-Up Box.
ByCullen is a fashion label led by Cullen Keating, a Whitecliffe Fashion School graduate. Notably, Cullen has contributed his work to labels such as New Life Studios and co-produced the Commencement fashion show for the graduates of Whitecliffe's class of 2023.

The Details
The Ruckus Fashion Show intends to explore the evolution of alternative and counterculture fashion on Cuba Street, from the 1980s to the present day. Through physical theatre, movement, and fashion, we aim to tell a story that celebrates individuality, creativity, and the spirit of rebellion that has shaped the culture of Cuba Street.
We've selected 10 Pōneke-based emerging fashion designers and 20 physical performers. Our designers will assemble and curate garments for two performers each. Each look will reflect an era or moment in the evolution of alternative fashion from a distinct decade, combining artistic vision with sustainability and preferably second-hand materials.
The Impact
Cuba Street has always played a pivotal role in Pōneke's counterculture scene, not only as a hub for artistic expression but also through its sense of creative community. The professional fashion and live performance scenes each struggle with accessibility due to traditional barriers such as cost and exclusivity.
By bringing together talented emerging artists we intend to create a multidisciplinary experience that breaks down these hurdles and provides a professional platform for local practitioners to make their mark on Cuba Street's history.
