Overview

I've written a new, 1-man-show performed in a van, and I need your help to bring the dream to reality.

'ROADKILL The Uber-cool Musical' is set to premiere at the NZ Fringe Festival in February with the hope to park up in a town near you throughout 2025 and beyond. Im taking the show on the road baby!

Could this be the first of its kind? Have you heard of anything quite like this? Would you want to come for a ride?

There is much needed development costs, recording of the new original meatloaf-esque rock soundtrack, upfront construction fees, festival registration and travel costs that I require help with.

Tom, this sounds absolutely crazy.....What is it about...

Strap in for the rollercoaster ride of your life as we take a regular mundane occurrence of driving in an Uber and blow wide open the private life, memories and miss happenings of our hero, and unvetted Uber driver, Terry. This one man show will be like nothing you have ever witnessed (and probably will never want to be part of again,) as we overshare and pull back the curtain on your local Uber driver and his life- all through song! Kinda like carpool karaoke meets extreme love story meets murder mystery.

Much more than a musical, with the hope to become an attraction! With fear of telling you too much, In the space of a usual cabaret show (60 mins ish) and with the help of the passengers in the car, you will witness and be part of, childhood dreams, possible births, deaths and marriages, high drama, dark comedy, all sung live with a kickass, original, rock, soundtrack. What more could you want? Did I mention this is to be shared by only you and 8 friends (or strangers)- can you get more intimate?

Why are you doing this to us Tom??!!

After years of doing other peoples shows and after covid hit, Ive felt a need to take my career into my own hands and create work that doesn't rely on other people pulling the strings. After performing in big theatres NZ wide I have set out to create something much more intimate, much more personal and much more real that can become the perfect group activity, the perfect smaller staff do, the perfect birthday/anniversary/celebration for someone, and that doesnt live inside the walls of a theatre.

This is much more. This will be weird and wonderful, it can be booked privately and gives me the flexibility to travel the country (and maybe the world) with something that is totally new and for everyone! Oh, and I can perform it multiple times a night!

Ok ... sounds coool but how will you pull this off??

Leave that to me. I have been toying with this idea and the songs for so many years and I'm finally taking the leap. Following on from my first original production, an 80s rock opera performed in pubs- 'Allergic To Love: Curse of the 80s' went on to win multiple awards worldwide and toured NZ, America and Mexico. Following that I wrote a reggae-roots musical for kids following the māori story of creation. 'Atarangi: Morning Sky' was performed by over 200 kids in a sell out season and then went on to be developed into a recorded album thanks to support on NZ On Air music for Tamariki.

This album won '2023 people choice global album of the year' at the Global Childrens Entertainment Awards 2023. So now its time for my next mission.

Why do you need our support ??!!

Can you imagine pitching this to funding bodies and garnering any support? This show is being created to take to the people. Its not what you usually see and go to. Its much more. So i am coming to the people to ask for support and help to make this possible.

How do you get support for a genre or an innovative new idea without anyone else previously doing it or displaying success?

If this is something you like the sound of, if you have seen one of my previous shows, if you want to support someone pushing the boundaries of what is possible in this industry, then I greatly appreciate your support and will return the favour by performing this show in more places, more frequently and for much less hassle!

Its Life on the Road!

Possible tour locations for 2025 include Wellington, Nelson, Blenheim, Dunedin, Christchurch, Palmerston North, Hastings, Auckland and many more.
