Overview

Struggling alone with his memories, a melancholic young man recalls flashbacks of his deceased bipolar mother's life, moments before the funeral.

What's this project about?

'Revolve' is a psychological thriller which follows the morning of a young man named Eric who is struggling with flashbacks of his late mother. Following a reverse chronological storyline, Eric is absorbed by memories, triggered by sentimental objects, of his bipolar mother, Trisha, as he struggles with the toll it has had over his own life from looking after his mother. These flashbacks combine with present time to complete a puzzle of the story, eventually relieving Eric's mind from the guilt of not doing all he could to help his mother's illness.

Some words from the Writer and Director of Revolve - Isaac Dyer

Hey guys, myself and Nayan who will be producing the short film 'Revolve', written and directed by myself.

We are both poor, struggling students with a vision to bring this short film to the big screen. We would love for you to support us financially as we venture into the production stages of 'Revolve'.  If you can't support us financially, then in spirit.

'Revolve' has become a massive part of my development as a person in a world with blatant issues surrounding mental health and addiction. 'Revolve' takes a twist on my own life experiences, bringing awareness to the sadly large percentages of the population with mental health issues.

It would mean the absolute world to both of us if there were any way you could support this journey.

Thanks again from our team for your time and input.

Isaac.

About Isaac - The Writer and Director

Isaac is a 22 year old student at Auckland University of Technology who found a passion for film making through his encounters with strangers. After following a career of organic cheese making prior to his degree, Isaac felt something missing in his life. Isaac began talking to the homeless of Auckland city where he fell in love with the compassion and desire people had to tell any living soul their story if willing to listen. Living homeless for a few months himself, Isaac found a calling to express his own life experiences and the hundreds of mostly unheard stories which can be found, quite literally, on the streets of his home town.

Isaac has always had a love for storytelling, with 'Revolve' being an expression of his own struggles with mental health in the past. Mental health has always been a struggle for young adults, with one in six New Zealand adults having been diagnosed with a common mental disorder at some point in their lives.

Isaac created 'Revolve' to bring awareness to the impact mental health can have, not only the ones suffering with the illness, but also on the people indirectly suffering from others mental health disorders.

Sometimes, all people want to do is scream to be heard but often those cries of help are ignored or received in confusion. Isaac believes bringing awareness to signs of people calling for help needs to be brought to light and he hopes to be able to shed a light on the ‘normality’ that mental health can often hide beneath.

Why do you need "that" much?

We need your help to turn this project into a reality. Alone we aren't able to fund certain aspects of the production process.

The $1500 is going to cover:

  • Props
  • Location
  • Crew and cast compensation
  • Transport
  • Catering

...these are just some of the things we need your help with. So, any donation will bring us closer to the goal of reaching our dream of creating this project.

Isaac and Nayan are creating this project for their final assignment in their final year of a Bachelor of Communications at Auckland University of Technology, majoring in television and screen production. But more than that, it is a project that lets us dip our toes into the real world of screen production and everything that comes with it.

Any support is appreciated. We are working hard to turn this project into a reality and are excited to share it with you!
