Rangatahi Animator Needs Your Support

The reason I made Home was to get the message out about violence, poverty and mental health in the homes of children living in Aotearoa.  Coming from experience and knowing my friends and family have been in similar situations, made it even more clear that I had to make this film to raise awareness about a huge problem in my community.  Mental health has been a huge issue among young teens in New Zealand and the suicide rates are rising and I want this film to get out there in the world to make the issue known.   

In March 2019, Home was awarded Best Editor & People's Choice at the E Tu Whanau Rangatahi Film Awards at Maoriland Film Festival and I am really honoured to now have Home programmed at imagineNATIVE Film + Media Arts Festival in Toronto, Canada. This screening will be the New Zealand premiere of HOME outside of Aotearoa. 

imagineNATIVE is the largest New Zealand Indigenous Film Festival in the world, receiving hundreds of submissions each year.

Home was made with zero funding - I am still a student! But getting the opportunity to have my film screened at such a large film festival is something I would have never seen coming. I am going to work the festival and connect with a lot of people there to learn more about film making to improve on the skills I already have to make future projects better. 

To get to imagiNATIVE I need your help. My first goal is to raise $4000 to cover my own costs -Flights and accommodation at this late stage are expensive!

My second goal is to raise $2000 so that I can bring my partner because I am not going to lie I am way too scared to go on my own.

In the end I want the outcome of this to help me for the future of my dreams of becoming a Film Maker, Animator, Editor, Story Teller and the list goes on. I have always dreamed of working for Weta Digital or Pixar Studios and this opportunity would be a big step in helping those possibilities come true, with your help I can take the message of Home to the world.
